LOCSU announces 20% reduction in the Levy charged to Local Optical Committees

24 October 2012

Alan Tinger Chairman of LOCSU announced at this year’s National Optical Conference, which took place on 18th and 19th October, that the levy that Local Optical Committees pay to fund the support provided by LOCSU will be reduced by 20%.  From April 2013, the levy will be reduced from 0.5% to 0.4%.

Alan Tinger, Chairman of LOCSU said:
“The NHS reforms have meant that more Local Optical Committees are seeing the need for LOCSU’s expertise and advice.  Now that 80 out of the 81 LOCs in England are LOCSU members with the final one proposing to join, the finance required to ensure that LOCSU is funded is spread across more Committees.  Together with focused budgeting, this means that we have been able to reduce the levy payment made by individual LOCs by 20%.

“This is great news for the Professions.  As our NOC speakers made clear, there are real opportunities for community eye care with the advent of the new Clinical Commissioning Groups and LOCSU is there to assist in every possible way.”
