NICE stroke rehabilitation - second guideline consultation - information required

7 January 2013

NICE is currently consulting on a second guideline for the rehabilitation of people who have suffered a stroke.

We believe the profession is already involved in the rehabilitation of stroke victims with a visual impairment but this work is not recognised.  In order to respond to the key question ‘How should people with visual impairment including diplopia be best managed after a stroke?’ LOCSU and the Optical Confederation need to get an idea of the number of contactors who routinely see stroke patients in their practices.

This consultation is a good opportunity (if numbers can be established) to demonstrate the profession’s involvement. We can then propose that in the rehabilitation process optical practices could provide a useful alternative route to hospitals for monitoring field defects and ensuring optimal visual correction, with training where appropriate. A LOCSU pathway will be developed in due course.

Please take a few moments of your time to answer this survey by 31st January 2013.
