Ophthalmic Performers List

How do I apply to the NHS England Ophthalmic Performers List?

Qualified optometrists need to be included in the NHS England Ophthalmic Performers List to perform GOS sight tests in England.

Primary Care Support England (PCSE) are responsible for administering applications to National Performer Lists on behalf of NHS England. The decision to admit or decline an applicant to the National Performers List is the responsibility of NHS England.

The full process can take up to 12 weeks from the point of application, including a Face-to-Face (F2F) appointment for PCSE to verify the applicant’s documents. LOCSU and the Optical Confederation have been working with NHS England and PCSE to streamline the application process and minimise delays.

Pre-registration optometrists

The resources below have been designed to help pre-registration optometrists navigate the Ophthalmic Performers List application process and obtain their OPL number as quickly as possible after qualifying.

Pre-registration optometrists may make an application to the Ophthalmic Performers List up to 3 months in advance of their expected qualification date, but they cannot be admitted to the List until they have full registration with the GOC.

Please note all references to ‘July 2017’ in the video guides can be substituted with ‘January 2019’.

Qualified optometrists

Qualified optometrists who are returning to work or applying to the Performers List for the first time will also find the resources useful. Once your application has been received, PCSE will contact you to arrange a F2F appointment in your region.

Once you have submitted an application to the Ophthalmic Performers List, you will receive and a case reference number e.g. CAS-12345-X1Y2Z3 to be quoted in all future correspondence.

To enquire about the status of an application to the Ophthalmic Performers List you should contact PCSE Online with “Case reference – NPL1 – forename, surname – GOC number” in the email subject line.
