LOCSU calls on LOCs to use electronic auditing

11 March 2012

Electronic auditing will be pivotal to the success of community eye care services in the new NHS says Katrina Venerus, Director of Operations and Commissioning at the Local Optical Committee Support Unit (LOCSU).  Speaking to promote the new LOCSU software tool which supports the management of enhanced services, she went on to say:

“With ever more pressure on NHS resources, we can no longer expect the NHS to collect the data, audit or report on the services we are asking them to commission.  By 2013, some established enhanced services which have run for many years will come under threat if they do not have electronic auditing systems in place.

“Robust audit data is essential for us as providers of eyecare  services in order to convince existing and new commissioners to implement community-based services to improving eye health across the local population."

LOCSU has worked with Webstar Health to develop software called OptoManager which comprises two products:

  • OptoServ builds on the successful IT platform that was launched by LOCSU and Webstar Health in early 2010 for collation of clinical data associated with managing the IOP Refinement pathway in NHS Stockport

                       and

  • OptoClaim for the processing of claims in older paper-based enhanced services
