LOCSU announces recruitment process for two new LOCSU Board members

4 February 2013

Local Optical Committees (LOCs) in London and the Midlands & East areas have been invited to nominate two new Directors to represent these regions on the LOCSU Board.

Alan Tinger, Chairman of LOCSU said:
“With the NHS reforms nearly upon us, these are exciting albeit challenging times for the LOCSU Board as it provides the strategic direction for the organisation.  We ask LOCs in these regions to consider carefully the best person(s) to support and influence the planning for the future of community eye health services.  I would encourage LOCs to cast their net from the widest pool of talents, skills and experience to ensure that the very best people in their region are nominated.”

Previously, the LOCSU Board has had three LOC/ROC representatives (North of England, South of England and Wales). Now that support for the ROCs in Wales is being provided by Optometry Wales, the LOCSU Board has agreed to reallocate the Wales position and to extend the number of LOC representatives from three to four to increase democracy and transparency.

All LOC nominations will be considered at the LOCSU Board Meeting in March and the results will be announced shortly afterwards.

The appointments will ensure that the issues and concerns from LOCs in all four new NHS regions are represented at Board level.  LOC Representatives on the LOCSU Board are:

  • South of England – Graham Ackers
  • North of England - Steve Mayer
  • London – Vacant
  • Midlands & East – Vacant
