Updated Atlas of Optical Variation reflects latest NHS changes

24 May 2013

LOCSU’s updated Atlas of Optical Variation which depicts the provision of community eye care services across England has gone live.
Katrina Venerus, Managing Director of LOCSU said:  “The new updated map of enhanced services provides an incredible ‘bird’s eye view’ to the state of community eye care in England – specifically focusing on services that are delivered by community optometrists and opticians.  Now reflecting the latest NHS changes that have resulted in Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) taking over responsibility for community eye care services from the abolished Primary Care Trusts (PCTs), this map provides both eye health practitioners and commissioners with a clear picture of the numbers of services available in different parts of the country.”
Visitors to the Atlas at www.locsu.co.uk/atlas will be now able to see:
  • the  geography of NHS England Area Teams rather than the previous PCT clusters
  • which CCG(s) has commissioned a specific service via the information box attached to each service
  • information on stable glaucoma monitoring and ophthalmology referral triage services for those Local Optical Committees that have these services in place.
